Three days before the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency polls, a woman BJP supporter named Ratibala Adri was murdered in Nandigram. The brutal attack left seven others, including her son Sanjay Adri, seriously injured from sharp weapons. Sanjay has been moved to a Kolkata hospital in critical condition.
BJP claims that their workers and supporters were attacked late at night while guarding a polling booth in Sonachura area. Ratibala was allegedly killed with a knife and a rod. Criminals allegedly supported by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have been accused of the attack. Local sources reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday night during the election campaigning for sixth phase.
Miscreants on bikes attacked BJP workers with sharp weapons in Mansa Pukur Bazar. Ratibala was struck multiple times and fell bleeding on the road. Her son Sanjay was critically injured while trying to save her. Villagers who rushed to the scene took the injured to Nandigram Super Specialty Hospital, where Ratibala was declared dead.
BJP workers burnt tyres, blocked roads and pulled down shutters of shops in Nandigram, alleging that the TMC-backed criminals were involved in the killing of Rathirani Ari. The saffron camp called a bandh in Nadigram as part of its protest but withdrew it later, a local BJP leader said.
Nandigram BJP leader Meghnad Pal condemned the attack, alleging that it was carried out by TMC miscreants to instill fear before the elections. Suvendu Adhikari, reacting to the incident, blamed TMC for the violence. “This bloodshed is the direct result of the provocation of the nephew yesterday. Trinamool committed this murder knowing they are going to face defeat for sure. BJP will take legal revenge. Answer will be given in a democratic manner," he posted on social media.
